Estimating a Concave Distribution Function from Data Corrupted with Additive Noise

چکیده
We consider two nonparametric procedures for estimating a concave distribution function based on data corrupted with additive noise generated by a bounded decreasing density on (0,∞). For the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator and least squares (LS) estimator, we state qualitative properties, prove consistency and propose a computational algorithm. For the LS estimator and its derivative, we also derive the pointwise asymptotic distribution. Moreover, the rate n achieved by the LS estimator is shown to be minimax for estimating the distribution function at a fixed point.

Estimating a function from ergodic samples with additive noise
We study the problem of estimating an unknown function from ergodic samples corrupted by additive noise. It is shown that one can consistently recover an unknown measurable function in this setting if the one dimensional distribution of the samples is comparable to a known reference distribution, and the noise is independent of the samples and has known mixing rates. The estimates are applied t...
متن کاملLower bounds on minimax rates for nonparametric regression with additive sparsity and smoothness
We study minimax rates for estimating high-dimensional nonparametric regression models with sparse additive structure and smoothness constraints. More precisely, our goal is to estimate a function f∗ : R → R that has an additive decomposition of the form f(X1, . . . ,Xp) = ∑ j∈S h ∗ j (Xj), where each component function h ∗ j lies in some class H of “smooth” functions, and S ⊂ {1, . . . , p} is...
متن کاملConvexity Properties in Binary Detection Problems - Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on
This correspondence investigates convexity properties of error probability in the detection of binary-valued scalar signals corrupted by additive noise. It is shown that the error probability of the maximumlikelihood receiver is a convex function of the signal power when the noise has a unimodal distribution. Based on this property, results on the optimal time-sharing strategies of transmitters...

We consider the problem of estimating a discrete signal X = (X1, . . . , Xn) based on its noise-corrupted observation signal Z = (Z1, . . . , Zn). The noise-free, noisy, and reconstruction signals are all assumed to have components taking values in the same finite M -ary alphabet {0, . . . , M − 1}. For concreteness we focus on the additive noise channel Zi = Xi + Ni, where addition is modulo-M...
